VACAVILLE -- The city's Arts Advisory Committee on Wednesday will be updated on the "Labyrinthine Heart" project.
"Labyrinthine Heart" was created by Wendy Ackrell, a San Francisco-based artist. This heart, along with 30 others, were curated by 31 Bay Area artists to raise funds for the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center during the Hearts in San Francisco 2023 event," the staff report to the committee states.
"These hearts symbolize a city dedicated to caring for all its citizens."
This heart, currently located in Union Square, is 6-feet wide, by 5-feet high, by 40-inches deep. It is valued at $9,100. Vacaville's Art in Public Places Policy states any artwork valued at more than $5,000 must receive approval from the City Council.
The piece is tentatively set to be placed at the western end of Main Street, at Parker Street, "to add vibrancy and help activate that section of downtown," the report states.
The committee made its recommendation in July, followed by an affirming recommendation by the Parks and Recreation Commission in August.
Ackrell started the project in 2004, and has raised millions for the hospital foundation. There are more than 130 hearts around San Francisco, and a number of others outside the city.
The committee meets at 6 p.m. in the council chamber in City Hall, 650 Merchant St.
