A Utah-based oil company challenged the Interior Department's decision to uphold agency orders requiring environmental remediation of a terminated lease.
"The operations requiring remediation were all conducted under a prior lease that terminated substantially before Pioneer entered the Lease," Pioneer Oil and Gas said in its complaint filed with the US District Court for the District of Wyoming on Monday.
Pioneer is challenging the Interior Board of Land Appeals' decision during administrative proceedings to affirm the Bureau of Land Management's orders requiring the company to conduct the remediation activities.
