TikTok bans account after user accused of spreading false FEMA information in video

BAT CAVE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The social media platform said they have banned the account of the user accused of posting misinformation regarding FEMA in a TikTok video.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office arrested the user identified as David James Phillips after his video went viral.

TikTok said the account was removed for violating the community guidelines.

The platform directs people who search for Helene-related content to reliable information from FEMA by labeling relevant content and search results, and reminds people to verify information, according to TikTok.

The company also said they have launched donation stickers that creators can add to connect viewers who want to support relief efforts to official charitable organizations like the Red Cross.
