The monstrous Texas travel stop that has been voted as having the cleanest restrooms in the U.S., or in my opinion, on planet Earth or the Milky Way for that fact, will soon give Texas travelers a new place to take those much-needed travel breaks.
While Central Texas is already home to a Buc-ee's along I-35 in New Braunfels, there will soon be a second location not 30 minutes north in San Marcos.
MYSA was on location when Buc-ee's founder, Arch 'Beaver' Alpin III and the famous beaver broke ground on the new 76,000 sq. ft. location on I-35 in San Marcos. The new gas station comes with a hefty price tag of nearly $50 million.
There is a lot of traffic that flows along I-35 between Austin and San Antonio.
The current New Braunfels location is located on the east side of I-35 just north of the city and basically serves traffic going northbound. Buc-ee's owners feel that the new San Marcos location being built on the west side of I-35 will better serve those going south into San Antonio.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Buc-ee's founder Arch Alpin III said,
We're really excited about this project. As you know, we've been building out of state a lot recently, but there's nothing like coming home to Texas." (MYSA)

Buc-ee's has been expanding beyond Texas. They have plans on opening locations in Colorado, Kansas City, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and more. The company has more than 50 travel stops along the nation's highways.
There should never be a time when you can't find an open gas pump because there will be 128 of them. If you require charging up your EV, you'll be covered, they'll have EV charging stations too.
Stopping into Buc-ee's is an experience. The massive convenience store can be overwhelming to some thanks to the hundreds of gas pumps and all the stuff they have to look at, buy, and eat inside the store.
BBQ sandwiches, Beaver Nuggets, soft drinks, candy, breakfast burritos, desserts, home goods, t-shirts, and souvenirs there is so much to see and buy! The new location in San Marcos will be a little less than 10,000 sq. ft. larger than its sister store just down the road.
The San Marcos location is expected to open on May 26, 2026.
Now, we're just waiting on the announcement of when a location along I-20 in East Texas is going to be built so we can get easier access to those Beaver Nuggets!
