Two major retailers are set to open in East Peoria's Levee District this year

Major retailers Best Buy and Boot Barn have agreed to open stores in East Peoria's major shopping center the Levee District.

Best Buy will be moving its operations from its Peoria location on North Big Hollow Road to a storefront in the Levee District likely sometime this summer, according to Cullinan Properties Director of Marketing Kristy Johns.

Boot Barn is expected to open its doors next to Best Buy sometime in the fall or winter of 2025, Johns said.

The two stores will be located near East Peoria's Target in the storefronts between Shoe Department and Lane Bryant, Johns said. Best Buy will be the larger of the two spaces.

East Peoria's Levee District is one of the Peoria region's busier hubs for retail and dining and is also the location for a new apartment complex coming online in the city. The additions of Best Buy and Boot Barn will help keep the Levee District a go-to space for consumers, city officials believe.

"These announcements reinforce East Peoria's position as a dynamic hub for commerce and community activity," East Peoria Mayor John Kahl said in a news release. "We are grateful to Cullinan Properties for their continued investment in our city and to Best Buy for reaffirming their commitment to the Metro Peoria area. We also look forward to welcoming Boot Barn as a new retail option for our residents."

Cullinan Properties said in a news release it is "thrilled" to bring Best Buy and Boot Barn into the Levee District.

"The addition of these stores is a testament to the growth and vitality of this community. We are especially proud that Best Buy has chosen to remain in the Metro Peoria area, and we look forward to seeing both stores thrive in their new locations," Cullinan Properties Executive Vice President Kathleen Cullinan Brill said.

Best Buy first opened its doors at Peoria's Evergreen Square shopping center in 1991. It then moved to its current home at Glen Hollow shopping center in 2003.

The Levee District was the site of a Caterpillar manufacturing complex until 1998.

Cullinan Properties became a partner in the city's effort to revitalize the area around 2008 and opened the Levee District in 2012.
