In Week 14, the Chiefs opened as 3.5-point home favorites against the Los Angeles Chargers before claiming the AFC West with a 19-17 victory. A week later, Kansas City started as a 5.5-point road favorite over the Cleveland Browns and won that game 21-7. Two weeks ago, the Texans opened as 5.5-point road favorites over the Jacksonville Jaguars before recording a 23-20 win. Then after their bye week, Houston began Week 15 as a 2.5-point home favorite over the Miami Dolphins -- and won that game 20-12.
The oddsmakers seem to believe that quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the primary reason the Chiefs have the NFL's best record -- and that he will either miss Saturday's game or be unable to play at a high level. In the short week, head coach Andy Reid will not speak to the media on Monday -- so it will be Tuesday before we have any official clarification on Mahomes's status. It will be interesting to see if (and by how much) the odds will change during this week's news cycle.
