Reggae artist Mortimer has unveiled the music video for his powerful single In My Time, featuring GRAMMY-winning icon Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley.
Directed by Pete Beng, the visually striking video delves into humanity's struggles with technology-driven manipulation, societal corruption, and systemic power imbalances. The track is a standout from Mortimer's debut album, From Within, which explores themes of personal and societal awakening.
"I started writing this song after feeling overwhelmed by the state of humanity -- the trickery, injustice, and hypocrisy," Mortimer said. "I realized that fear was being used to manipulate us, with self-appointed 'gods' seeking to destroy the very fabric of our existence. This song is a reflection of everything that's broken in the world... and yet, it carries a message of emotional truth."
The collaboration between Mortimer and Marley resonates deeply, addressing issues like systemic injustice, environmental destruction, and moral decline. Their poignant lyrics, paired with haunting visuals, create a striking call for introspection that grapples with both despair and hope.
Mortimer has quickly become a rising force in contemporary reggae, earning accolades for his raw and reflective storytelling. His debut effort has garnered significant praise, with Billboard calling him "one of contemporary reggae's guiding lights," and GRAMMY.com lauding his "raw, confessional lyrics." He was also honored with the Impact Award (Reggae) at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards.
Rolling Stone described the In My Time video as "unsettling but powerful," cementing Mortimer's reputation as a bold and thought-provoking artist.
