A Sun City firefighter is expected to make a full recovery after suffering injuries from an explosion stemming from a garbage truck fire, the Sun City Fire and Medical Department said.
On Thursday, Jan. 30, around 2 p.m., a Sun City fire crew responded to a vehicle fire on a residential street near the Sun City-Surprise border. A video shared on Instagram by the fire department shows a city garbage truck engulfed in flames.
The video shows a parked car in an adjacent residential driveway giving off smoke from the intense heat radiating from the truck fire.
One firefighter was injured from an explosion and was transported to the Arizona Burn Center - Valleywise Health, according to the fire department. That firefighter was expected to make a full recovery.
Sun City Fire and Medical Department gave thanks to Surprise Medical-Fire Department for a quick response to the situation and "taking care of one of our own."
