After six games on the road, Rice is heading back home. They will welcome the Alcorn State Braves at 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday at Tudor Fieldhouse. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Rice's season wasn't pretty last year but it's starting to look like struggles are in the rearview. They took a 75-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Texas State on Sunday.
Rice's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caden Powell, who went 5 for 6 en route to 14 points plus six rebounds, and Trae Broadnax, who had 13 points plus six rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season is starting to look grim for Alcorn State, who still haven't picked up a win after 11 matchups. The match between them and Oklahoma on Saturday wasn't a total blowout, but with Alcorn State falling 94-78 on the road it was darn close to turning into one. One positive for the Braves, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Davian Williams, who posted 13 points plus seven assists and two steals. He had some trouble finding his footing against Wichita State last Wednesday, so this was a step in the right direction. Another player making a difference was Michael Pajeaud, who scored 12 points plus five assists.
Even though they lost, Alcorn State was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Rice's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Alcorn State, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
