NFL Fans React To Drew Brees' Performance On ESPN Monday

Drew Brees made his TV return on Monday night.

The legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback spent the 2021 season with NBC after retiring, but the new media opportunity didn't last long. He was a studio analyst on Football Night in America and called Notre Dame games as a color commentator before going to his alma mater, Purdue, as an interim assistant coach.

Brees may have taken a step toward a broadcasting comeback. The 45-year-old joined ESPN's Monday Night Countdown ahead of a Week 10 matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams.

Although he didn't receive rave reviews during his short time on NBC, fans enjoyed Brees' guest appearance. Some hope it opens the door to another opportunity for the future Hall of Famer.

"In an era of hot takes and nonsense, I find Drew Brees to be a refreshing change," a fan wrote. "Love his analysis."

"Drew Brees fit in well with the ESPN crew," a fan said.

"Drew Brees is a great addition to the MNF panel. ESPN should offer him a permanent spot," another fan declared. "Really like the new dynamic & Brees is killing it!!"

"Drew Brees sounding great on Monday Night Countdown," a fan wrote. "NBC did him dirty, glad he's getting a chance to share his knowledge and show his personality."

When reporting the appearance earlier on Monday, The Athletic's Andrew Marchand said ESPN wanted Brees before he joined NBC. The sports media insider speculated that his cameo could become more than a one-time deal.

On ESPN's pre-game show, Brees worked alongside Scott Van Pelt, Ryan Clark, Jason Kelce, and Marcus Spears. He deviated from the crew by picking the 2-6 Dolphins to defeat the Rams at SoFi Stadium, and the team that passed on signing him in 2006 is up 17-6 in the third quarter.
