(Image: Newsquest) North Ayrshire's Lord Provost Drew Duncan presented The Ayrshire Hospice with a cheque for £1,015 at Irvine's Cunninghame House in December 2004. The sum was raised at a charity ball which was organised by the local authority.

(Image: Newsquest) Irvine's Rock School staged a big show in December 2004 with a line up of musical talent that could rival any edition of ITV's X Factor. Local bands Porno Clowns, Money to Burn, Unity, Pyro and The Red Hot Silly Feckers took to the stage at Castlepark Community Centre to wow an audience of more than 100 people.

(Image: Newsquest) Irvine said goodbye to Sanderson Avenue in December 2004 and welcomed in plush new housing which would see the start of a new era.

Before work began on the £3.4 million development, North Ayrshire Council couldn't give houses away in the area, particularly after the devastating deliberate blaze which killed Anna-Teraysa and Carrie-Marie Murray and their pal Mandy Cooper.

Council Leader David O'Neill said: "What happened in Sanderson Avenue was a tragedy, but I think these houses give everyone the opportunity to move on."
