STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- No. 1 Penn State rolled to a dominant 30-8 win over No. 2 Iowa in men's wrestling class in the Bryce Jordan Center Friday night.

The Nittany Lions (10-0, 4-0 Big Ten) beat the Hawkeyes (9-1, 3-1 Big Ten) won eight of Friday's 10 matches and picked up bonus points in four to secure the runaway win.

"We have to get first takedowns, we have to get the last takedowns," head coach Tom Brands said. "We got run out of this arena in some matches, and what are you going to do coming back."

Penn State's Luke Liledahl earned a technical fall, 22-6, victory over Joey Cruz to open up the action at 125.

Iowa's Drake Ayala responded with a technical fall, 19-4, over Kurt McHenry.

With the match tied at 5-5, the Nittany Lions went on a six-match winning streak as No. 4 Shayne Van Ness upset No. 2 Kyle Parco with a 17-6 major decision at 149 and No. 3 Tyler Kasak won via decision, 5-2, over No. 1 Jacori Teemer at 157.

At 184, Angelo Ferrari picked up his second start of the season as Brands opted for the talented freshmen over Gabe Arnold. Arnold made headlines ahead of the match for his smack talk directed at Penn State four-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci.

Starocci beat Ferrari by a 3-1 decision, breaking his streak of 12 consecutive bonus points wins to begin the 2024-25 season.

The move from Arnold to Ferrari did not surprise Penn State according to head coach Cael Sanderson.

"We figured that might be the case based on stuff that happened and the things that were said," Sanderson said. "Carter, he would have have been ready for either opponent. They have two great options."

No. 1 Stephen Buchanan picked up the Hawkeyes only other win on the evening with a 5-1 decision over Josh Barr.

"Buchanan won a tough match," Brands said. "He won it with tough riding."

Penn State's Greg Kerkvliet punctuated the win with a 12-2 major decision win over Ben Kueter.

Iowa returns to action on Sunday against No. 25 Maryland (8-6, 3-1 Big Ten) at 1 p.m. Broadcast coverage will be provided by Big Ten+ (subscription required) and the Hawkeye Radio Network.
