LSU's recent offensive struggles happened to coincide with an injury to one of its top offensive linemen, and his status remains uncertain heading into the Tigers' next game against Vanderbilt.
Left guard Garrett Dellinger could miss a third straight game after undergoing tightrope surgery to repair a high ankle sprain suffered Oct. 26, but coach Brian Kelly said a decision has not been made.
"We're getting closer to where we think there's a chance that he could play," Kelly said, "but we won't make that decision until probably midweek."
Redshirt freshman Paul Mubenga started the past two games in Dellinger's place. He allowed seven pressures in both games, according to Pro Football Focus.
LSU gave up seven sacks Saturday in a 27-16 loss to Florida after allowing six all season. The Tigers have now allowed 11 sacks since Dellinger got hurt in the first half against Texas A&M. They had given up two sacks in the previous seven games.
Kelly was asked Monday if LSU would play redshirt freshman Tyree Adams instead of Mubenga. Adams, the Tigers' top backup offensive lineman, returned from surgery on a sports hernia to play 26 snaps against Florida. He filled in when right guard Miles Frazier left the game with an ankle injury. Frazier later returned, and Kelly said he will practice this week.
"We'll decide who the best guys are," Kelly said. "Tyree was forced into action, as you know, when Miles went down, and he went in and he competed the best he could given somebody that hadn't played in quite some time. Both of those guys (Adams and Mubenga) are still gonna be in the mix."
Kelly said sophomore defensive end Da'Shawn Womack will "be available" to play against Vanderbilt after not traveling to Florida. He did not explain the reason for Womack's absence.
