The Florida Gators have added four players through the transfer portal to date. Florida gained a backup quarterback, a potential starting wide receiver, and depth at the edge position. With plenty of players without a home still in the portal and the spring transfer portal window to follow, the Gators should look to add players at three positions.
Defensive back
Florida is clearly trying to add a versatile defensive back that can provide them depth at the safety and star positions. The Gators gained a commitment from UAB DB Adrian Maddox, but he flipped his commitment to Georgia just two days later. Florida has turned to NC State DB Bishop Fitzgerald, who tells Gator Country he expects to visit Gainesville this weekend.
With Aaron Gates recovering from an ACL surgery, the Gators want a defensive back that has experience at the star / nickel position. I like where Florida is at in the safety room as I think the highly touted freshmen could play early if needed.
Florida should look into adding a potential starting cornerback as well in the spring window. The duo of Dijon Johnson and Devin Moore is talented, but Moore has not been able to stay healthy through three years at UF. After Johnson and Moore, you are looking at a group of players that don't have much experience in the SEC. This is a position Florida should look to strengthen before the 2025 season.
Offensive tackle
With Damieon George Jr. coming back for his final season, many are assuming Bryce Lovett will kick outside to right tackle next season. Lovett got the start at right tackle in the bowl game and performed well, allowing just one pressure in 39 pass blocking snaps.
Lovett will be a key to Florida's 2025 offensive line regardless of the position he plays because of his versatility. He can play all five positions along the offensive line.
With that being said, none of Florida's reserve offensive lineman are particularly experienced at tackle. Bryce Lovett, Caden Jones, and Flecther Westphal have combined for just 139 snaps at tackle in their careers.
It would make sense to add a quality tackle into the mix to create competition heading into the 2025 season.
Defensive tackle
Florida tried to add Kentucky transfer Keeshawn Silver, so we know they are interested in bringing a starting caliber defensive tackle into the fold.
Returning Caleb Banks was huge for Florida's defensive line, but the Gators lost Desmond Watson and Cam Jackson who combined for 689 snaps in 2024 at nose tackle.
The Gators' interior defensive line is currently very young as two rising sophomores in Michai Boireau and D'Antre Robinson are firmly in the mix. Florida will hopefully return redshirt sophomore Jamari Lyons, who is rehabbing from a broken ankle.
Florida should look to add at least one defensive tackle ahead of the 2025 season.
