LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A man was found dead in a house fire Monday morning, and police said he had a gunshot wound.
Now, officials are speaking out about where they are in the investigation process.
WAVE reports firefighters responded to a house fire within minutes just after 8 a.m. Monday on the corner of Bicknell Avenue and Peachtree in Louisville.
However, this quiet house on a quiet street became a crime scene.
Chief Brian O'Neill with the Louisville Fire Department stated the victim "was found immediately inside the door and pulled out right away, but the fire was deeper inside the house."
Officials say the victim had a gunshot wound to the head.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, it's unclear which came first - the fire or the shooting.
Louisville fire worked through the morning to put the fire out and preserve the scene.
O'Neill says, "Anytime there's a fatality, that takes it to a different level. We try to preserve the scene as best we can to assist arson and LMPD, but again, as you can imagine, fire scene it is difficult, it's dirty. And our members have to make sure it's under control."
Metro Arson and LMPD's homicide unit are working together to continue the investigation.
