Two workers were seriously injured Monday morning in an explosion at a paint production facility in northeast Illinois, according to local reports.
The explosion was reported at about 8:30 a.m. at the Seymour Paint factory in Sycamore, located a little more than 60 miles west of Chicago, local outlets WGN-TV and WFLD reported.
Sycamore Fire Chief Bart Gilmore told reporters at the scene that the building's water and foam fire suppression system was activated immediately, but fire engines also needed to extinguish the flames. It's believed the fire occurred as a result of a paint can that exploded, Gilmore said, according to reports.
USA TODAY left messages Tuesday morning for Gilmore and Sycamore Police Chief Jim Winters.

Two people were hospitalized after the explosion at the Seymour facility, a 75-year-old company that invented aerosol paint. The workers were reported to have "severe burns," according to WGN-TV.
A third person was also treated at the scene, the outlet reported.
Gilmore told reporters that the blaze was under control in under 30 minutes.
"Luckily, we had a fast response time, and the fire was able to be suppressed before any real significant damage, and this became a much larger incident," Gilmore told reporters at the scene.
USA TODAY reached out to Seymour Paint for comment Tuesday morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
