WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAW) - Christmas is just a few days away, and it is also a time to give back to families who might not get to celebrate the holidays like others do.
Sunday was a morning the Erwin family in Wisconsin Rapids will never forget. When they opened their front door, there were 10 gifts for each family member.
They each opened one present of their choice to start their Christmas celebration.
"(It was) kind of shocking honestly. We're never ones to be the center of attention. To be surprised, it's great," Zachary Erwin, whose family was surprised with Christmas presents, said.
They also received a check for $5,700.
"On behalf of all of us at the Best Christmas Ever, your friends and family that joined us as well, we wish you a very Merry Christmas," Cheryl Crohn, a committee member for the Wisconsin Rapids Best Christmas Ever, said to the family.
If there is one word to describe the experience, it is hope. Erwin says it reminds him there are good people out there.
"No matter how cruddy our year has gone, you know, it's nice to cap it off with, the best Christmas ever," Erwin said.
He says this is a reminder for anyone struggling that there is support out there from your community.
"We're here to support you. We know that maybe you had a tough year, and you're facing some difficult times but there's people in this community that are here to support you," Amanda Dolph, a committee member for the Wisconsin Rapids Best Christmas Ever, said.
