Nina Dobrev Was 'Completely Shocked' By Shaun White's Proposal

'Love Is Blind' Star Nick Dorka Reacts to Hannah Jiles' Weight Loss

Finally! After five years of dating, Shaun White and Nina Dobrev are officially getting married. The Olympic snowboarder, 38, surprised the actress, 35, in late October by popping the question with a 5-carat diamond ring at the Golden Swan restaurant in NYC.

"Shaun was planning the proposal for a while," an insider exclusively tells Life & Style. "Nina was completely shocked. She really had no idea it was going to happen that weekend."

The proposal went off without a hitch -- and now comes the fun part: wedding planning. Says the source: "Nina and Shaun are so happy to be celebrating this time in their lives."

Nina and Shaun announced their engagement in an Instagram post shared on October 30. "RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé," the Vampire Diaries alum wrote alongside three photos from their engagement.

Shortly after they made the announcement, several of Shaun and Nina's famous friends took to the comments section to congratulate them on the happy news. "MOM AND DAD ARE GETTING MARRIED," Zoey Deutch enthusiastically wrote, and Maggie Rogers added, "Sooooo happy for you guys !!!!!!"

"Congrats! So happy for you guys," Nick Jonas wrote in the comments section, and Sarah Hyland chimed in, "SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP."

The professional athlete also shared photos from the proposal on his own Instagram account, which he captioned, "She said YES."

Shaun and Nina also revealed details about the proposal while speaking to Vogue. "I went into shock," she admitted to the outlet about the surprise proposal. "I just froze and stared at him."

The pair also explained that he recruited the help of his publicist to send Nina a fake invitation for an intimate CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour. "He made the invite look so legitimate," the Degrassi alum said about the plot.

Once Nina arrived at the restaurant, she was greeted by Shaun and the photographer. "He said all the right things," she gushed.

After Nina agreed to marry Shaun, the lovebirds were joined by friends to celebrate their engagement. In addition to enjoying caviar and champagne at the restaurant, they also ordered Shake Shack and dumplings for everyone to eat.

The couple started dating in April 2020, and they made their romance Instagram official in May of that year.

Back in 2023, the couple took a major step in their relationship when they purchased a 3,793-square-foot mansion in the Hollywood Hills for $4.3 million.

"Nina and Shaun have been serious for a long time, so it makes sense that they're moving in together," an additional insider exclusively told Life & Style in July 2023. "They can't wait to turn this into their dream home, with the help of a designer. This is a huge step for them, and friends are just waiting for Shaun to propose now."

The duo made their first red carpet appearance as an engaged couple while attending the Earthshot Prize Awards in Cape Town, South Africa, November 6. Nina looked gorgeous as she posed in a strapless red gown and accessorized with her massive diamond engagement ring, while Shaun dressed up for the occasion in a black tux.
