LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - With cooler temperatures expected this week, Lubbock homeowners are urged to take action now to protect their property from prudential winter damage.
Home Depot supervisor of plumbing and electric Mark Minor says people should start grabbing the necessary items to avoid issues such as frozen pipes.
"Right now, they should start grabbing the faucet covers, insulation," Minor said. "A lot of people don't know that you should grab HVAC filters because a clogged up filter can make it to where it doesn't work properly so it doesn't heat the house properly."
Experts say preparing your home in advance can save thousands of dollars in repairs. Taking simple steps now can protect vulnerable areas of your home from the chill that's expected to settle in.
Key Winterizing Tips:
Exposed pipes in unheated areas like attic, garages and crawl spaces are especially vulnerable to freezing. Without insulation or protection, those pipes can burst, leading to costly repairs and water damage.
In an emergency situation, knowing where your water meter is and how to shut off the water can create less of a headache.
