Dre Greenlaw wants some money, and John Lynch wants to keep him on the 49ers

49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw is set to become a free agent in March, and when he was asked this week what he wants for Christmas, he answered, "Some money." General Manager John Lynch is ready to pay it to him.

Lynch said on KNBR that the 49ers see Greenlaw as being part of their long-term plans.

"We love Dre. We're interested in keeping him here for a long time, he's a special player," Lynch said.

Greenlaw tore his Achilles tendon in the Super Bowl and didn't play this year until last week, and even then he didn't finish the game. So his health could be a concern for the 49ers, or other teams, when deciding how much money to guarantee him.

But the 27-year-old Greenlaw looked good in his 2024 debut last week, and when healthy he's been a big part of the 49ers' defense since they drafted him in 2019. The 49ers are facing some big questions about how much they need to re-make their roster after the disappointing season they've had this year, but they seem to believe Greenlaw has a bright future in San Francisco.
