Look Pup! Beloved Character Steals the Show From Man of Steel in 'Superman' Trailer

Pup, pup, and away! At last, we have our first look at James Gunn's Superman reboot, the first movie in the DCU. Praise has quickly been heaped on what's been revealed, including for the main trio of David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. But another character has stolen the show. Making his silver screen debut is Krypto the Superdog, and fans cannot get enough of the scrappy little super-powered pooch.

The praise for Krypto begins with Mallrats director, comic book writer, and well-known comic book fan Kevin Smith , who applauds what he's seen from Jame Gunn's take on the DC icon so far. "Good boy, Krypto! Great boy, @JamesGunn!" Smith declares on X/Twitter.

First introduced on the cusp of the Golden Age of comics, Krypto made his debut in "Adventure Comics #210" back in 1955. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan, the beloved canine companion has had a few different origins over the years, from being part of a parallel universe to being experimented on. While we don't know how Gunn will introduce the character yet, he clearly has the same powers as Superman, and is even sporting the red cape! Much to the delight of fans. "#Krypto has the f'n cape. WE WON. About to be peak," says X/Twitter user @NikkoCaruso, with @theBurk3nator adding, ""Yeah #Superman is great, but we've seen this bef... OH MY GOD, IS THAT #Krypto?! AND HE HAS A CAPE?! WHO'S A GOOD SUPER STRONG BOY?!"

Putting Krypto Front & Center Is a Big Win for Superman Fans Close

Krypto is far from the first time James Gunn has put an adorable creature in his movies, excelling every time he does so. And it looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy director has succeeded again. "The way James Gunn really said, "Y'all thought Groot and Baby Yoda were cute? Buckle up.," says @ConnorBehrens. "I truly don't know why anyone ever doubts James Gunn. The #Superman trailer feels every bit like the triumphant new era for DC that this movie needs to be. David Corenswet exudes Big Superman Energy. And you just know Gunn is going to make you fall in love with Krypto. Excellent," adds, @FreddyInSpace, no doubt summing up how many feel after seeing the trailer.

Superman is DC Studios' first feature film to hit the big screen, and is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who's driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.
