Dec. 19 -- Two drivers were hospitalized on Wednesday evening following a crash north of Goshen.
Elkhart County deputies reported that at 9:27 p.m. Wednesday, Yoleida Chacon, 61, of Elkhart, was traveling east on C.R. 18 approaching the intersection at C.R. 17 in a gray 2014 Nissan Sentra when police said she disregarded a lighted signal at the intersection and collided with a black 2019 Kia Forte driven by Deborah Martin, 57, of Goshen.
Both drivers were transported to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries. Chacon was cited for disregarding a lighted signal with bodily injury, and Martin was cited for possession of marijuana although police say neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.
Failure to yield causes Benton crash
A woman was hospitalized on Wednesday following an Elkhart County crash.
Elkhart County deputies reported that at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Kimberly Snowden, 57, of Goshen, was traveling east on C.R. 44 in a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and failed to yield the right of way.
Timothy Rhodes was traveling south on U.S. 33 approaching C.R. 44 when, according to Elkhart County deputies, his 2006 Chevrolet Impala was struck by a Snowden's vehicle.
Snowden was transported to Goshen Hospital for treatment and cited for failing to yield. A passenger in her vehicle did not seek treatment for injuries
HIT-AND-RUN
-- A 28-year-old man reported to Goshen police that between 2 a.m. and noon Wednesday an unidentified vehicle struck his vehicle, parked in the 200 block of Tanglewood Drive, and left the scene.
-- A 58-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 6:06 p.m. Tuesday that her unoccupied parked car had been struck and damaged by a pickup truck in the parking lot of Martin's Super Market, 1527 Bashor Road.
ARRESTS
-- A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Goshen police at 10:37 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of possession of a firearm by a juvenile, burglary, theft, and being incorrigible after someone called Goshen police asking for a welfare check on him in Pickwick Manor.
-- A 34-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated during a traffic stop near the intersection of Wilden Avenue and April Lane in Goshen.
-- A 43-year-old man was arrested and jailed Elkhart County deputies at 3:22 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of meth, paraphernalia and a handgun after he was found passed out in his vehicle in the 25000 block of C.R. 26 in Elkhart.
-- A 58-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 11:33 p.m. on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was stopped for traffic violations near Chicago Avenue and Denver Avenue.
SEX CRIME
A 20-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 10:19 a.m. Wednesday being sexually assaulted over the summer.
