STARCOM commander gives Florida Tech commencement speech, warns of high-tech space threats

When Space Force Maj. Gen. Timothy Sejba joined the military nearly 30 years ago, he recalled how "space was really a benign environment." But within the past five years or so, he said space threats from America's adversaries pose potential dangers to our armed forces and national economy.

Sejba commands STARCOM, which is relocating from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Patrick Space Force Base. The military move will bring hundreds of military and civilian jobs to Brevard County.

SpaceX launches Space Force GPS satellite into orbit during Monday liftoff from Cape Canaveral

After nearby rainfall swept westward off Cape Canaveral, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket illuminated the Monday night darkness at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, launching and lifting a Lockheed Martin-built GPS III satellite into orbit for the Space Force

SpaceX's RRT-1 mission -- an acronym for Rapid Response Trailblazer -- took flight at 7:52 p.m. EST from Launch Complex 40. The 229-foot-tall rocket deployed the satellite into orbit 12,550 miles above Earth.

Eventful 24 hours: Tuesday SpaceX rocket launch from Florida carries SES satellite

The Falcon 9 rocket's familiar roar sounded Tuesday throughout Brevard County in what was the second time in just under 24 hours.

After finally getting the delayed RRT-1 mission for the Space Force off the launch pad Monday night, up next was O3b mPOWER satellites for communication company SES. Gloomy weather loomed over the Space Coast -- pushing the liftoff time straight to the end of the launch window. Finally, the rocket lifted off at 5:26 p.m. from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A, carrying the pair of satellites to orbit.

Starliner astronauts get more time added to ISS stay as NASA's Crew-10 gets delayed

The tour doesn't end for the Starliner astronauts who launched to the International Space Station in June, as they got yet another month tacked onto their time in space before they can return home.

NASA on Tuesday announced the delay of the launch of Crew-10, which in turn means the return of Crew-9 will be delayed. The Starliner duo, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, were set to return home on that Crew-9 Dragon in February 2025 after the troubled Starliner was returned to Earth without them. Now they will have to wait until no earlier than late March to get back to Earth, bringing a journey which was supposed to be 10 days to more than nine months.

'Transformative' $1.8 billion space construction project may start next month at Cape Canaveral

Next month, an undisclosed space company hopes to start grand-scale construction on more than $1.8 billion worth of heavy-lift rocket infrastructure at Cape Canaveral, with work potentially complete within 18 months to two years.

"This is one of those projects that will be transformative for the region, the state, and for America," Space Florida President and CEO Rob Long said during a Wednesday afternoon special meeting on the massive undertaking -- the code-named Project Hinton.

NASA's Bill Nelson praises agency's people, accomplishments during last days as administrator

NASA's Apollo 16 astronauts launched to the moon on April 16, 1972. Two days later on the Space Coast, an aspiring 29-year-old Melbourne attorney named Bill Nelson announced he would run for a Florida House seat in the upcoming Democratic primary.

"Today, I am announcing my candidacy in the hope that I may begin a life of public service in which I can give of myself with whatever ability God gave me," Nelson told supporters during that press conference -- earning mention by TODAY, FLORIDA TODAY's predecessor publication.

Blue Origin New Glenn launch date inches closer as rocket sees testing at Cape Canaveral

Thursday afternoon, the massive 320-foot-tall New Glenn rocket sat on Launch Pad 36 at Cape Canaveral, steam billowing from it -- indicating fuel was being poured into the rocket.

Blue Origin's promised wet dress rehearsal may have been underway, where New Glenn would be fueled, but not launched. After multiple hours of steam venting from the rocket, all activity stopped - signaling they concluded the test.

Early scrub! SpaceX stands down from launch of Astranis satellites from Cape Canaveral

SpaceX was set to try again Saturday night to launch the Astranis mission, known as From One to Many - now a liftoff date remains to be seen.

As of just before 9 p.m. Saturday, a rare early scrub has been called. SpaceX had been set to try again the first hours of Sunday, but rocket issues appear to be an issue following Friday's abort.
