Southern football doesn't mind living on the edge as long as they win

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Southern continues to have no regard for the preseason SWAC Football predictions.

Last July, the Jaguars were picked to finish fourth in the western division. With two regular season games left, they are one win away from securing a spot in the SWAC Championship game.

There is living on the edge. There is also whatever the 2024 Southern Football team is pulling off. Four of their six wins have come by one score. Three of those wins were decided in overtime. Most recently, last Saturday's five overtime thriller against Bethune Cookman. A game where the Jaguars trailed 3-0 in the fourth quarter before winning 25-23.

The script has been the same for nearly all of these games. The offense is lifeless for nearly three quarters. The defense keeps the game close then the offense makes the plays in the end.

Add in a hint of Joshua Griffin field goals and that is the formula.

Southern will host Arkansas Pine Bluff Saturday for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
